Dropbox Integration: Images are not being uploaded to Dropbox and image does not appear in notification email when session is involved.

Asked by cmsacomms on June 01, 2016 at 12:58 AM

Hi, I've created a form https://form.jotform.com/61438007625958 but I'm having a problem with submitted images in the form. There are two problems:1/ The form has a section to upload photograph. In the notification email that comes through after submission, I want a thumbnail of that photo to appear in the actual email (see screengrab 1 below). Even though I have put the tag {IMG:pleaseUpload:300} it is still not appearing. Why is this happening?2/ The second issue is that the form is integrated with Dropbox, however ONLY the pdf is coming through, not the uploaded image attachment (see screengrab 2 below). I have tried to remove and then re-establish the Dropbox integration, and tried different sizes of images, but still no image attachment is coming through. Any help on these issues would be appreciated.II should add that this form is linked to another form to begin with, at https://form.jotform.com/61448587522968 which sends a link to their email and allows the user to save the form as they go. Not sure if that is relevant in anyway to the above issue, but thought I should mention it.

I cloned your form and made some tests there. I cannot seem to replicate some of the issues. When I checked the notification 1, I was able to see the thumbnail of the photo.

I was also able to see the image in the dropbox folder.

The only issue I was able to replicate was that the thumbnail cannot be seen in the Notification 2.

To resolve the issue, please replace the field in the email notification 2 with {IMG:pleaseUpload:300}. Once done, the image should now be seen in the notification.

As for the other concerns that I was not able to replicate, to resolve the issue I would suggest clearing your form cache and your browser cache first. Then one they are cleared, open the form and reintegrate it again with your Dropbox folder.

If the issue still persists after, please let us know.

Hi, thanks for your suggestions but unfortunately the problem persists (see screenshots below). I did as you suggested, cleared the form cache in settings and the browser cache. It worked the first time once only. But since then it hasn't worked, and also I have also asked other people to try filling in the form on their computer and uploading photos and the images don't come through either into Dropbox or in the notification email (I can only see it in the pdf). I have tried clearing the form cache again but to no avail. Any other ideas?

1/ I upload the photo in the form and submit. The form goes through successfully.

2/ The email notification comes through, but no thumbnail appears in the section ('Please upload a colour photo')

3/ In Dropbox, only the pdf of the form appears but no image attachment.

Thank you for updating us on your issue. I cloned your form again and made some further tests, but I am still unable to replicate your issue. I was able to see the image in the email notification and it was also sent to my dropbox folder.

It appears that the issue does not occur in the cloned version of the form. Due to this, perhaps you can try cloning your form and using that cloned version instead of the original. Alternatively you can also try cloning our version of your form. Here's the link to my clone: https://form.jotform.com/61540200314942

Hi, I cloned the form and the same problem occurred. However, as mentioned at the beginning in my first post, this form is actually linked to another pre-form to begin with at https://form.jotform.com/61448587522968. The reason I use this pre-form is that it sends a user a link in email to the main form, and allows the user to save the form as they go and come back to their session in case something goes wrong while completing their form ...

So, for a test instead I skipped the pre-form and went directly to filling out the main form, and after submitting it, the image SUCCESSFULLY came through on my email and into dropbox.

So, now that I have discovered this, could you help figure out what might be happening and causing the problem? I really need the pre-form in order to save data for users but also need the uploaded images in the main form to come through in drop-box and in the email.  Thanks for your advice.

Thank you for the additional information. I will be making further tests based on your specification, and I will let you know on this thread once I have an update. Regards.

I made some further tests based on your specification, and I am able to replicate your issue. It appears that the issue does occur when the form is submitted from a session. When I submitted the form using the direct link, I was able to see the image. But when I submitted the form from a session, the image is not being displayed.

Furthermore, the image cannot be seen in the email notification.

I will have to escalate this issue to our developers for further investigation. I will let you know on this thread once I have an update.

    Hi,

We're happy to let you know that this issue is now fixed.

Files uploaded through sessions will now be sent to Dropbox properly. Also, image thumbnails on notifications will now display correctly.

    Best,

    Hi there,

I'm sorry but it is still doesn't appear to be working. I submitted the first form and followed a link, then submitted the second form with an uploaded photograph. As you can see from the screengrabs below, dropbox only has the pdf (no image attachment) and the notification email does not display the thumbnail. I tried this twice with the same result.

RESULT IN EMAIL (see blank field in photo section):

RESULT IN DROPBOX (no photo, just the pdf):

I cloned your form and did some tests there. I can see that the issue still persists.

However, when I redirect the form to a new test form instead of the second form, the image can be seen in the dropbox folder.

Can you please try cloning your second form and integrate it with dropbox? Then change the link on the first form to redirect it to the second cloned form. If the issue still persists there, please let us know.

    Hi again,

Were you trying to upload files smaller than 300KB? Upon further checking, I found that your upload field has a minimum file size property of 300KB.

When you upload smaller (than minimum) files, "saving" them through sessions does not work, so they are lost in the process. With that said, I'd recommend that you remove this minimum size limit temporarily.

We do realize that the form itself should restrict uploading smaller files in the first place, but this is another topic which we will file a bug ticket for to get rectified.

Hi, I did as you suggest - cloning the second form and linking it from the original first form. The first time, the image appeared only in dropbox but there was no thumbnail in the notification email. I tested the form using the same process again, and this time no image appeared in dropbox, nor the thumbnail in the notification email, as you can see from the screengrabs below. I don't think it has anything to do with size restrictions as all of my previous uploaded photo image file sizes as these are over 1 MB, and minimum file sizes have been turned off now.

b/ no thumbnail image in notification email

I've made further tests with the form, and it appears that the issue might be related to the page break widget. After removing the page break widget and form tabs widget from the form, when I submit the from using session I was able to see the images in the dropbox folder.

Here's the form where I tested it: https://form.jotform.com/61650877588977?session=test@gmail.com&name=Test%20Support&email=test@gmail.com

Can you also try doing the same on your end? You can remove the page break and form tabs in the cloned version of your form. That way, you can still have the original design of the form. Please let us know if you were able to see the image in the dropbox folder after removing the page breaks. I will be waiting for your response.

Hi, I removed all the page breaks and form widget and did a number of test and I can confirm the images are now appearing in dropbox (screengrab below). Please note however:

1/ The thumbnail of the image is still not appearing in the notification emails

2/ I realize we're currently trying to isolate the problem, but I'll ultimately need to have the form widget and page breaks restored to ensure the easy-navigation of this form.

The image does not appear in the form email because the field tag has been altered and now enclosed with P tag.

I've fixed this by removing the p tags.

The file upload on dropbox is working for both my test form and a cloned version of your form. I think it is safe to add both pagebreak and form tabs widget. I would suggest trying to upload a file again, see if that works this time.

If the test won't work, I would suggest re-integrating the form to Dropbox. Use a simple folder name and avoid any special characters. Please update us here after.

    Hi,

I looked at the source code in my notification email and replaced it with exactly the same code as shown in your screengrab (see below). However the thumbnail still does not appear in the email when the form was submitted. Any ideas?

    Dropbox is now working fine.

I'm sorry, but I think there is a misunderstanding here. You need to remove the P, strong and break tags in the image field. Please check the following image and remove the highlighted codes:

Hi, I'm sorry to report that upon deleting the paragraph tags as suggested (screengrab 1 - see below), it has not only not resolved the issue and the image thumbnails still do not appear in the notification emails (see screengrab 2) but further problems are coming up with dropbox and the notification email. I have tried a number of things suggested above along the way - cloning the form, reintegrating with dropbox, trying standard names, clearing the cache - but this has not changed the issue. The problem is as follows:

I tried the form for the first time and the image thumbnail DOES NOT appear in the notification email (screengrab 2), but the image DOES appear in dropbox (see screengrab 3). But then if I try the form again, the image DOES NOT appear in dropbox (see screengrab 4), but the ENTIRE FIELD in the notification email no longer appears - not just a blank space as in screengrab 2 (see screengrab 5). Any assistance would be appreicated ... in looking into this issue please bear in mind the context of info above, that we're talking about two forms and sessions, not just an independent form.

1/ I removed paragraph tags from source code in notification email, then saved it.

2/ On the first test of the form, thumbnail is not appearing in notification email.

3/ Also on first test of the form, image in dropbox DOES appear.

4/ On second and following tests of the form, images in dropbox no longer appear

5/ On second and following tests of the form, the entire row does not appear in notification emails

I'm aware of the two forms. I've fixed the problem in the notification 1 by removing the extra spaces in the source codes. I've tested your form all the way through the first form. Can you check? I am willing to reopen the ticket if needed. But I think we should split the problems into two threads. One for the notification email and one for the Dropbox integration.

    Hi,

Below are the notifications that have come through - with no image thumbnails.

Re splitting the threads - whatever works best to solve the issues. If they're not related to each other in any way that's fine.

    Hi,

Since the images now seem to appear in Dropbox and the problem is now about the images in the email notifications, I created a separate thread. We will do further investigation about your issue in this thread.
