Counting the number of characters in a field

    I have a field that I need to count the number of characters it contains.  So, for example, if the characters are 34573628, then the number of characters is 8.  Another example might be sd56472pby; here the number of characters is 10.

    Is there a function that can do this for me?

    Unfortunately, it is not possible to get the number of characters a user has inputted on a certain field. But if you are trying to limit the maximum number of characters your user can enter in a certain Textbox field, you can limit it using the Max Size setting of the field.

    The character counter widget is only a widget that counts down how many characters that are left to be entered.

     

    BVHall says "I have a field that I need to count the number of characters it contains."

    I think he means the counted result should be put in a separate field and allow this to be used for some other calculation purpose.

    It this is the case, I think the character counter widget is useless since it does not contain the ability to use the counted number in any other way than to present to the user how many characters are contained.

    It would be great if you could further develop this widget to allow to fetch the result and allow it to be sent to another field where you can use it as a base for another calculation.

    A great number people has asked for this feature since 2012 and we are in 2017 now. I find it rather disappointing that Jotform do not invest in some development here.

    The only solution to me is a work-around which involves java script and downloading the full source code. This is for techies. Jotform sales point is that you can create a form without no coding.

    In this sense, it is a surprise to me that this solution yet does not exist as a on-the-shelf solution.
