Update Calculate Field [New UI]: It does not allow to select to which field of a matrix field the result should be added.

Asked by adevries on July 19, 2016 at 04:49 PM

I'd like to populate a specific matrix field with the value from questions earlier in my form.

The first column in my matrix is a list of Row Titles. These titles correspond directly with questions asked earlier in the form.

The next column in the matrix is titled Yes/No.  I'd like to see the Yes/No answers in this column populated, row by row, from the questions of the same text which appear earlier in the form.

Is there a condition that allows me to do this?

This is possible, but in the old UI, you can use conditions and then choose the field of the matrix field where the result should be added, for example, in the old wizard the condition looks like this:

Where it allows to choose to which field of the matrix field the result should be added or copied, while in the new UI wizard this does not seem to be possible.

You can only copy the field value and that's all, you cannot choose to which field of the matrix field the result will be added.

I'm not sure if this was intentionally or if this is an issue, this is why I will forward this thread to our second level support so our developers will inform us about it.

In the meantime you may set this using the old UI, to access it you need to append "&old" in the URL for the Form Builder, example:

    https://www.jotform.com//?formID=123456789&old

This will get to you the UI as shown on my first screenshot.

Doing this you can set the conditions, for example, if the field ""Access/Egress" Notes" is filled then its value should be copied and pasted into the row "Access/Egress" in the matrix field, there you can select the option where the value should be added.

This is how the condition should be set:

This way you will be copying the value from the desired field to the specified field in the matrix field.

    Hey there, JotForm -
Has it been determined if this issue was an intentional change, or not?
Here’s what the support person had to say to me back in July about this issue:
I’m re-opening this issue because I’ve added a question that, when filled, needs to populate a certain field in the matrix. By adding that question, I have off-set matrix answers in all the questions that follow the new question.
This seems like a silly way to program things. If I am trying to design a form like this, shouldn’t a new question create a new line in the matrix, rather than bumping all the answers to the following lines?
Thanks for letting me know where this feature stands.

Unfortunately, we still don't have any updates regarding this issue. We'll let you know once an update is available regarding this matter. You can still use the old interface for the meantime.

    Thank you for understanding.
