How could I make a reply to a submission to display a tally

Asked by LADSON on May 07, 2012 at 12:59 PM

I have constructed a form that my employees use to input thier time worked throughout the day. I would like them to be able to see a running total of hours per day per employee. Any ideas?

You can achieve this by using source code embed and adding some customize scripts that can sum/total a value. As is now, JotForm does not have an existing tool/fields that compute values except those in the payment tools.

If you can put the excel in the server and be able to read it using javascript or php, then I believe you can sum a column from it and display it in your website for the users to see the equivalent total from that excel report you displayed in your form.

Hope this provided help in some way. Please inform us should you have further inquiry.

Here's how I immediately thought you can achieve this.

    1. In your website, you will use source code to embed the form

    2. Since you are using source code, you can then add custom scripts (functions) on the web page.
    i.e. <script type="text/javascript"> "custom scripts here" </script>
    3. You must have access to your Excel file, (if you put it in your website, you can probaly access it), put some formula on the Excel to have total for a column
    4. Now, use the custom script to access the total column of the Excel file and have its value displayed in the web page where the form is also embedded.
    5. Display the whole excel in your website as part of the page with the total column already included.
We actually have just released our newest JotForm integration : -Google-Docs-Integration-Send-Responses-to-Google-Spreadsheets-Instantly-

This was what I was thinking that can be done even before the new integration =)
Hope this help. If you are interested to pursue this I can probably provide you assistance (in my spare time) to achieve it.

    Hi Jotfom Support,

My company is thinking to buy Jotform service and wondering whether Jot form had the capability to integrate data with Tally accounting software. Any help regarding this will be highly appreciated
