QR Code reader widget: Not reading QR Codes generated outside Jotform on mobile browsers

    Hi Jotform,

I have just created a form, and added a QR Reader widget, which needs to scan a QR code and import a serial number to the form.

Firstly, I created a QR code with my serial number using a free QR code generator. But Jotform could not scan the QR code. I tried 2 different free generators.

Then I tried to create a QR code inside Jotform using the QR widget, which worked.

Will Jotform QR Reader widget only read QR codes created by jotform? or is there a certain type of QR code that has to be created for Jotform to read?

    Thanks!

    Hi lowernorthcoastteam,

Thanks for reaching out to JotForm Support. I'm sorry you're having trouble with the QR Code widget. The widget should be able to read QR Codes even if it's generated by 3rd party applications. Can you share the site where you generated a free QR Code? It could also help us investigate if you can send problematic QR Codes here as screenshots.

After we hear back from you, we'll have a better idea of what's going on and how to help.

    Hi,

Here is are a couple of QR codes that could not be read. the results should be "1001" and "1002". "1003" was generated by Jotform and is able to be read correctly QR Code reader widget: Not reading QR Codes generated outside Jotform on mobile browsers Image 1 Screenshot 40QR Code reader widget: Not reading QR Codes generated outside Jotform on mobile browsers Image 2 Screenshot 51QR Code reader widget: Not reading QR Codes generated outside Jotform on mobile browsers Image 3 Screenshot 62

    Hi Christian,

Thanks for getting back to us. I checked your last form but seems you no longer have a QR Code Scanner but just a Barcode scanner. Are you perhaps working on a different form now?

Also, can you confirm if you're using the QR Code Read widget using Jotform Mobile App or just the mobile browser?

After we hear back from you, we'll be able to help you with this.

    Hi

Yes I changed it to Barcode, when I realised that was possible, and I no longer need to create barcodes for this form. However it would be nice to know why it wasn't working for future use

I was using QR code read widget on a mobile browser (Safari)

    Thanks

    Hi Christian,

Thanks for clarifying. I've gone ahead to creating a form and tested the QR Code Reader widget on a mobile phone using Safari and was able to replicate the issue. I also tried generating a QR Code from a 3rd party website https://me-qr.com/qr-code-generator/qr and the code can't be scanned as well. Check out my screencast below to see my results:

I created a ticket and escalated this to our Developer team. Although we don't know exactly when the issue will be fixed, we’ll circle back to this thread when we have an update.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, we appreciate it.
