Number of fields affects form performance

    Hi!

    I hope you're doing great!

I am wondering if my Selling Success Plan form is too long. It keeps not populating any of the checkboxes in the editor and it's freezing up every time I try to load it.

I'd love to give you the link but everytime I open it I have to shut down Chrome because it stops responding.

I'm hoping you can help! Thanks, Lori

    Hi Lori,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. You have 544 fields in your form, and this is huge to handle for online forms. Perhaps clearing your browser cache and site data every time you edit the form will help reduce the burden. But if you can divide this into 5 forms, it will be easier for the machine to handle and more convenient for the responder to easily navigate the form.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Ok great thank you! Is there an easy way to divide it and I’m curious how
it functions when in use. Thanks!

    Hi Lori,

Thanks for using Jotform. The only way is to create 5 individual forms. Then use the Field Manager tool to copy the form fields from the original form to the individual forms. Change the Submit button label of form 1, 2, 3, and 4 to "Continue". This is to make it appear like they're responding to the same form but they're actually being sent to the different forms. Here are the steps:

    1. Copy the form fields from the original form to the individual forms.

    • Open the Field Manager.
    • Click on the Manage Fields and then confirm to allow access to your forms in the pop-up window.
    • Click on the Open a Form To Begin, and then select the form 1 (2, 3, 4, or 5).
    • Then click on the Open a Second Form to clone fields and select the original form.
    • On the original form, select the fields to clone, and then click the left arrow.
    • Open the Form 1 (2, 3, 4, or 5) and refresh the page to display the cloned fields. Number of fields affects form performance Image 1 Screenshot 30

    2. Redirect the forms (1, 2, 3, and 4) to different page. Set this up to redirect the user to the next form to respond to after they click on the Submit button of the previous form.

    • On the Form Builder of the form 2, go to the Publish tab at the top navigation bar.
    • Under the Quick Share tab on the left, click on the Copy button to copy the URL.
    • Open the Form Builder of the form 1, then go to the Settings tab at the top navigation bar.
    • Open the Thank you Page tab on the left, select the Redirect to an external link after submission, and the paste the URL of the form 2. Number of fields affects form performance Image 2 Screenshot 41

Do the same procedure for the form 2, copy the URL of the form 3 and then paste it into the Thank You page of form 2. The same goes to the form 3 and form 4. Every time the responder clicks on the Submit/Continue button, it will redirect them to a continuing form.

Test my demo form on this link. It will demonstrate how it redirects the responder to form 2 from form 1 after clicking on the Continue button. Clone it to own a copy and be able to see the entire setup. Here's the guide on How to Clone an Existing Form From a URL.

Give it a try and let us know if you have any other question.

Thank you for this! I don't think it's exactly what I was hoping for so
I'm wondering how many pages or fields can I have max on one form.

    Hi Lori,

Thanks for getting back to us. For accounts created after April 1, 2022, a Bronze Plan Subscription can only have 250 fields per form. Since yours is created before that date, there is no limit on how many fields or pages you create on your form but having a large number of fields and pages would slow down your form and might not be ideal for the form fillers.

Let us know if you have any other questions.
