LINK - embedded in my email - the block of text with the address is a black bar. If you hover over it, you can see there is a link there, but it looks like a black bar. The graphic that appears below with the promo for JotForm is not a hot link. AARRGGHH
EMAIL through system - I type in an email address and press SEND. No error, no success message, nothing. No indication of what might or might not be happening. AARRGGHH. (REVISE-works for yahoo addresses but not gmail addresses!)
Please help figure out how I can actually use the form I have made.
Thanks
Below is the black bar that pastes into my email:

I could not understand what you mean by 'black bar'. It seems you have set the background color as black for the link.
You can publish your form with different methods.
1- You can simply copy your form's link as seen below and paste it wherever you want:
2- By clicking Share Option from the shown above:
3- You can share your form on email as seen below:
If you are mentioning above about 'Notification' emails, I can see that you already set up your email. You can enter Gmail addresses into 'Recipient Emails'. If you can't, please let us know the issue.
When someone fills your form, you can receive the notification email and make sure it's received by the person who submitted your form.
You can find detailed information about notification and autoresponder emails here.
If these steps don't solve your problem and I misunderstood your problem, please let us know and provide it with screenshots.
If we understand your issue more detailed, we can assist you better.
