It seems that PayPal does not offer an option to select the 'product' or 'service' invoice type in their Invoicing API that we use for our integration.
Note, that in our integration you can disable the 'Shipping Information', so that it will not be included in the generated invoices.

thank you, yes I did set "shipping info" to "no" but the Paypal invoice still lists "shipping" in the summary of charges (set to $0.00). I'll await word on an enhancement.

Thank you for trying it. As explained by my colleague Paypal Invoicing doesn't have an option to change the Payment Type to "service". By default, you could only Sell Your Products, Receive User Defined Amount and Receive Donations on this type of integration.
I will escalate a feature request ticket to our developers and we will provide you with any updates via this thread.
