PayPal form redirecting to PayPal when Total is 0

The PayPal payment form won't show the subproducts of a given product unless that product is selected. If the customer selects the product and then decides not to order a subproduct (by entering a subproduct qty > 0), the payment for any other products ordered will reject at PayPal for an invalid qty.

    My requests:

1.) I can't leave the form in a state that might reject at PayPal. What can I do to prevent the above?

i.e. What can I do to prevent a PayPal submission when a product with subproducts is selected, but all the subproducts' qty values are 0? Please don't tell me to default the subproduct qty values to 1 such that the customer would have to change them to 0 to avoid ordering an unwanted subproduct. Alternatively, I can't rely on the customer to unclick the product selection box. Is there any way for me to see the qty values of subproducts when a customer hits the PayPal submit button?

2.) I'd like the customer to see the subproducts without having to select the product.

    My embedded PayPal form is:

The Sub Products are designed to work in that way, and this is not something that we can change at this time.

You might consider using separate products, they are fully visible by default and selection will not be an issue too.

Yes.  Now that I'm introducing payment via PayPal, I'll have to change all of my forms to no longer use subproducts.  Given the penalty paid for a customer leaving the product selection checked but not ordering a subproduct, the subproduct functionality is pretty useless on PayPal forms.  Too bad.  Seems like there should be a way to not send a product order to PayPal when none of the subproducts has a qty > 0.  Of course, PayPal should be able to deal with 0 qty's too!

    Thanks.

You are right, the form is not supposed to redirect the end user to PayPal when the total is equal to 0. We have sent a bug report ticket to our developers.

There is no ETA, but we will update this thread when we have any news. Thank you.

Thank you.  I was really talking about sending a selected product with all subproducts having a zero qty through to PayPal, not a zero total.    I could prevent the latter myself by not showing the submit button until the order total > 0.

This is fantastic!  I'm sure there are lots of customers who will benefit from this change. You really are the most responsive support group I've ever encountered.

    Thank you all so much!
