How to Hide Empty Fields on Email Alerts

How to Hide Empty Fields on Email Alerts

Update: On the new email wizard, this option is already enabled by default so you don't need to do any further configuration in your form.

However, if you wish to change that option, you can open it in the Advanced settings in your email wizard. Below are the steps on where to find it.

This option can be found both in the Email Notifications and Autoresponder Email.

1. Click on "Settings".

2. Click on "Emails"

3. Here you can hover on the email alert and click the pencil icon to edit.

 4. Click on the Advanced tab, and scroll down, you should be able to see the "Hide Empty Fields" option there.

Important Note: When this option is enabled, you should use the default data table in your email notification and autoresponder email for the "Hide Empty Fields" feature to work. You can still add some text and new rows but you should keep the labels and fields tags of the questions intact. If you delete the whole data table then create your own layout, then the hide empty field feature will not work.

I have accedently hidden the name of the recipient and trainer from the form. Thus not able to see that in my mails. How can I edit the same

  • cvaughn

I have 2 fields that show up on every email even when blank and I have noted as hidden. How can I find out what's causing this?

  • jmetzgar

Is it possible to show text fields in the confirmation email? They seem to be stripped out and only show the fields where the user is asked to input something.

  • Mike Hosford

I can't get it to work. Please check and tell me what is wrong. I still get all fields on email.

Having the same problem - cannot get unfilled fields to be omitted from confirmation email. The screen shown above is no longer available. I used to use it and it worked like a charm. Can you please provide a solution. Thanks!

Jotform has been updated and I can no longer find this same option in the new advanced preferences pane.

  • UniversityCenter

    in "Setup & Embed
    > "Preferences"

I do not see that option. In fact, my panels do not look like the examples provided.

Has Joyform updated this since the posting in March 2016?

This issue should be given URGENT TOP PRIORITY consideration. Otherwise, it becomes a real mess.

It would be really great if you can add this to the new interface. The changes you recently made are more user-friendly and aesthetically pleasant. I have 100+ fields on a conditional form so hiding the unentered ones is important, but having to switch to an older and less intuitive interface to do so is disappointing.

    Hi Jotform folks,

After the recent changes in the interface, these instructions for hiding the empty email fields in auto-responded and submission forms no longer work, as these options "Hide Empty Fields on Emails" no longer exist as menu options. Can someone update how to do this with the new menu, since I can't seem to find this option anywhere not in JotForms.

IS this thread still valid? I would like to use a completely customized email response getting rid of the default table.

  • boydocoalescence

Thank you. That helps a lot, but we cannot modify the email after the fact...that's unfortunate.

  • CitygateBmth

That's really useful, but is it possible to hide a field from the notifier?

I have a couple of hidden fields I'm using for validation and whilst I'd like to hide empty values in emails, not showing hidden fields is a bigger priority.

As it is currently, locking the table means these hidden fields are then put back into the email.

    Thanks for any help.

I'm attempting to hide blank entries but I don't get the same options as those listed in the screen shot. I'm only offered: Send Post Data, Unique Submission and Form Warnings under the Advanced Settings.

  • twistandpout

I see that if you modify the email template it wont' work -

  • twistandpout

This seems to be working when viewing submissions within jotform, but the email alert is still showing all empty fields. Any ideas?

  • wrasmu

I am having the opposite problem. When I change this setting to enabled it does not keep this setting saved. It keeps changing to undefined. I have changed my e-mail to use the default so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. ANy help would be appreciated.

  • tiernowa

when I set this to disabled.. it still doesn't add the empty fields to the email..
