Jotform’s GPS Location widget is ideal for forms that require real-time location data from respondents. Whether you’re managing deliveries, conducting field inspections, or tracking attendance at specific locations, this widget allows users to share their exact GPS coordinates with a single tap. It enhances the accuracy of location-based submissions and streamlines processes that depend on geographic context. Perfect for mobile forms, the widget uses the device’s built-in GPS to automatically capture and populate location fields, ensuring reliable and up-to-date data.
Here are a few ways to use it:
- Capture the exact location of field reports, inspections, or site visits.
- Verify the location of staff or technicians during on-site work.
- Record the coordinates of incidents, issues, or maintenance requests.
- Collect precise GPS data for delivery, pickup, or service locations.
- Document the location where a form submission was made for verification purposes.
Note
The GPS Location widget requires a Google Maps API Key to work. Take a look at our guide on How to Get Google Maps API Key for Jotform Mapping Widgets for more details.
Whether you’re creating a new form or updating an existing one, adding and setting up the GPS Location widget only takes a second—get it started like this:
- In Form Builder, click on Add Element on the left side of the page.
- Now, in the Form Elements menu, under the Widgets tab, search for GPS Location and click on it. Or drag and drop it to where you want it on your form.
- Next, in the GPS Location Widget Settings menu that opens on the right side of the page, under the General tab, set up the following options:
- Google Maps API Key — Required for the widget to work correctly. Without it, the map will not load or appear on the form.
- Show Mini Map — Displays a small map on the widget, allowing users to set their exact location by entering an address or dragging a marker.
- Then, scroll down to the bottom and continue to set up these settings:
- Hint Text — Customize the message shown at the bottom left of the map.
- Input Placeholder — Enter the placeholder text displayed in the input field.
- Location Error Message — Customize the alert shown when a location cannot be found.
- Output Type — Defines the format of the submitted value. Options include Map URL, Address, Latitude & Longitude, or Address with Latitude & Longitude.
- Once everything’s set, click on Update.
