Jotform’s User Contributed Checkbox widget lets users add their own answer options if the choices you provided are not enough. They can click on Add Option and type their response directly into the list. This helps you collect more complete information without editing your form each time.
Here are a few ways to use it:
- Let users add their own checkbox answers.
- Collect more complete and detailed data.
- Give respondents flexibility when preset options are limited.
- Expand answer choices without manually updating your form.
Whether you’re creating a new form or updating an existing one, adding and setting up the User Contributed Checkbox widget only takes a second—here’s what to do:
- In Form Builder, click on Add Element on the left side of the page.
- Now, in the Form Elements menu, under the Widgets tab, search for User Contributed Checkbox Highlight and click to add it to your form. Or, just drag and then drop it to where you want it to be on your form.
- Next, in the Widget Settings window that opens on the right side of the page, under the General tab, set up these things:
- Options — Enter the default options, separating each one with a new line.
- Default Value — Set the option that will appear pre-selected when the form loads.
- Finally, click on Update to save the changes, and you’re all set.
Now, If a user adds a new option to your form, you can delete it by clicking the red X button next to the option in the Form Builder.
That’s it! You’ve successfully added and set up the User Contributed Checkbox Widget on your form. Wondering how it looks in action? Check out this Demo Form.
