Why I need HIPAA if forms can be Encrypted?

Thanks for this helpful information. However, I am having a hard time understanding why I even need the HIPAA compliant version for PHI when you are now able to use end to end encryption for forms on the free version.

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. I understand that you are a confused about getting HIPAA subscription where the forms can be encrypted, is that right?

Encrypting the form will make your submission data encrypted before it gets sent to the server. Only you have the key to open it and we don't have access to open it as we don't keep copies of the key.

For HIPAA, we store the data on a separate server intended only for HIPAA accounts, and highly secured. A Business Associate Agreement (BAA) is also provided when you enable the HIPAA feature.

Also, you can choose what field is to be considered Protected Health Information (PHI) and which is not. You may check out this guide for more details about how to set PHI fields on your form.

Thanks. I am already using a HIPAA subscription. I just don't understand how the HIPAA stored info is any more secure than just using end to end encryption? Is that separate server somehow more secure?

Thanks for getting back to us. The separate server used for HIPAA accounts is highly secured with end-to-end encryption.
