Submission Data Sent to Slack via Integration are Cut-Off: Character Limit

    I am wondering if there is a way to fix our issue with character limits. It shows that we have the limit turned off but sometimes it still caps out the notes. We just copy and paste the notes into the paragraph for the end of day form, and it isn't working properly. Can I get some clarity on this?

    Is there a limit when it zaps into Slack with the integration? For some reason ours are getting cutoff sometimes when we submit the form and it zaps to Slack

    Hi Justin,

    Thanks for getting back to us. Our system doesn’t set a character limit on the Long Text field, so the issue could be related to the Slack integration or possibly the Zapier service if you’re using it as an intermediary.

    Jotform’s Slack integration automatically sends your form submissions to Slack. You have the option to customize the message and choose specific fields to send along with the message. But, if the text is excessively long, it might be truncated when it’s transmitted to Slack.

    To resolve this issue, can you check the settings of your Slack integration and ensure that you have set up the integration correctly? Also, try submitting the form with shorter text in the Long Text field and see if it’s still being cutoff when sent to Slack.

    If the issue persists, please share the link to your form, and I can check it out and help you with a solution. Give it a try, and let us know how it goes.

    Here is an example test I just ran, and you can see that at the end of the section, it shows "sq..." and cut off the rest of my notes that I submitted in the test.Submission Data Sent to Slack via Integration are Cut Off: Character Limit Image 1 Screenshot 20

    Sorry I somehow missed your last message. I believe the automation is setup correctly, and many times it will show all of the characters, but there are time (like the screenshot above) that will cut off some words. Here is the link to our form: https://www.jotform.com/build/232715661700148

    Can you try removing the Slack integration and reconnecting it again? Here's how:

    1. In Form Builder, in the orange navigation bar at the top of the page, click on Settings.
    2. Click on Integrations in the menu on the left side of the page.
    3. Then on Slack, click the Remove Integration button.

    1. In Jotform Tables, select the submission and 3 dots icon.
    2. In the menu, select Edit Entry.

    I just tried it again without the integration and inside of Jotform, then entire body text shows up just fine as I typed it. Once I reconnected the integration to Slack, it gave me the same output as above where it cut off the text.

    Hi Justin,

    Thanks for getting back to us. I cloned your form and tested it to see if I could replicate the issue, and I ran into the same issue. It seems like Slack has a character limit for each of the fields.

    If the words exceed around 1900 characters, Slack won't be able to register any more of it and will be cut off.

    You will have to contact Slack support for this and ask them the character limit for their platform as on our Tables, all the characters for the submission were registered.
