How do I make the date default to blank rather than todays date?

How do I make the date default to blank rather than todays date? When using the configurable list date picker.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to leave empty the date field in the configurable list since it will be populated automatically with today's date.  There is not currently a way to change the default for the date field in the configurable list.
