Why edit box not appearing in upper left-hand corner of text box?

Hello, 

I was told that a little blue check box is supposed to appear in the upper left-hand corner of the text box once I select the box on the form, but as you can see on the screen shot I provided, the little blue box is not showing up. Is there a reason why I am not seeing this little box?  I was told I needed to have that in order to edit.

I'm not sure that I understood you completely, but to edit Text field you just need to click the small pen:

When you edit your Text click check mark:
