Can an answer to one question lead to a different question?

If, let's say, I would like to make a field mandatory but only if a certain option is selected. For example, if someone opts for a paid membership, then I'd like to make a mailing address mandatory. If not, then this field can remain optional. Is this possible?

Yes, you can do that, please follow this:

1) Go to Settings-Conditions-Enable/Require field:

2) And create a condition that will make the mailing field required if the subscription is a paid one:
