You explained how to create a mask, but it doesn't do what I want.

If the mask says £######.## you have to enter all the characters but what my customers need is a data entry system where you key in say  £99.40 and it automatically slots in to the field left-justified with the leading zeros suppressed.  How can I achieve this please.

I'm sorry, but I do not understand your request. 

When using Input Mask option, your users will be forced to match the format you specify. 

Please explain in more details what exactly are you trying to achieve. Provide us an example what will your user enter inside of the field and what should happen when specific value is entered.
