Is there a way to save your work and come back to it later when completing the application in jotform?

Yes, you can save your form before submitting it. There are two methods:

1) Enabling the autofill feature: https://www.jotform.com/help/227-How-to-Enable-Auto-Fill-on-Forms 

With this method, the information will be saved in the browser's local storage, so you need to get back to the same browser to continue filling the form.

2) Implementing the "Continue later" workaround: https://www.jotform.com/help/97-How-to-Save-Forms-and-Continue-Later 

This method will create a session URL, which will allow you to continue from any browser and device.
