how does subscription payments work with Auth.net Integration

I want to change from a single yearly price for my membership form, to a monthly rate. I use Authorize.net as my payment integration. Can you tell me how this works? Does authorize.net store the credit card and payment info, and handle the billing on a monthly basis ?
