How to populate form field with the submission data of another form?

Asked on September 10, 2015 at 7:08 PM

Is it possible to update a form base on the data selected from a another form.

To make it clearer, can I be able to update or populate  form A base on the data selected from Form B; either in the same web page or different pages.

    Thank you.

    Hello UBANY,

I am not sure if I have understood your question correctly.

Do you want to read the submission data of form B and populate the field of form A? Unfortunately it is currently not possible to read data from any external source including the submission of same or another form.

If you want to pass field value of one form to a field of another form, with a little workaround it is possible to achieve your requirement. Please take a look at the following thread where I have explained this in detail :  http://www.jotform.com/answers/504179-Is-it-possible-to-pass-field-value-from-one-form-to-another-form

    Hope this helps.

Do get back to us if you meant to ask something else.

    Thank you!

    Hello Ashwin_d,

    Thank you for your response.

Sorry for not putting it right the first time. I think you guessed right.

What I am looking out to achieve is this:

Assuming I have a one-page website, and have two different forms on the page.

    1. In the first form, I have a field with a dropdown box that have option 1, option 2, and option3.

    2. if a user choose option 2 while filling the first form, and click submit,

    3. the url will direct him to the second form with option 2 prefilled

No thank you massage in the first form.

    Thank you

    Hello UBANY,

Okay great. Did you check the forum thread URL I shared earlier?

Please take a look at the following thread where I have explained this in detail :  http://www.jotform.com/answers/504179

Do test the workaround and get back to us if you have any questions.

    Thank you!

    Thank you, Ashwin_d,

I have tried studing the guide you linked me to.

I particularly find this app here interesting; http://prepopulate.jotform.io/.

I want to know if i can embed the form in my site using that url. or is this more touches I need to apply before embedding it.

    Thanks

We do apologize about the delay in our response for your issue.

Anyhow, to answer your question above the population generator is more intended to allow you to create custom populated information for which you can then embed or switch out and have sent to other forms depending on how you choose to go about it.

    Thank you.

I tried it and it indeed populated the form by default. but how can this relate to my earlier question.

what I am asking is if it is possible to use this workaround to get the form auto-populated base on the user selection in another form that linked to it through url. if Jane Ann fill the form after JoHn Doe

    What happens?

Sorry if I should have known this.

As explained by my colleagues already, this is very much possible. It was explained in details on the other thread here http://www.jotform.com/answers/504179

The key is to submit first the first form, so that it can pre-populate the 2nd form.

Here an example first form http://www.jotformpro.com/form/31427061944957?yourName=jonathan&yourEmail=jonathan@jotform.com

This form is pre-populated already with data. When you submit this form, it will pre-popluate then the 2nd form.

Here is a visual presentation on how it works.
