As described there, you can use the Shrink option to move multiple items to be one beside the other, in one line.

After items are moved to be on the same line, you can open up the Designer by going to Setup & Embed > Designer, and use the Enable Form Columns feature by expanding Form Layout > Enable Form Columns.

The above mentioned option will spread your shrunken form fields to be in columns. Please let us know how it goes.
