Using SSL in prepopulate app

    http://prepopulate.jotform.io/ says it will be able to read what is prepopulated and what additionally filled in by my prospect.  Can they still read the details if we app your free SSL ?

    Yes, it would still work with https/SSL URLs. There is an option for you to enable or disable "Secure URL" in the Prepopulate app. If you enabled it, the URL will be changed to (https://secure.jotform....). If unchecked, then it will use the URL (http://form.jotform...).

    in addition to the app would be easier, what are benefits or drawbacks to using the app, for this, as compared to doing it with

    There are no other benefits or drawbacks, other than the PrePopulate App being much easier to use than manually entering the codes for your URL parameters.

    Writing the codes manually is more prone to accidental errors, which is why we recommend using the app.
