I made a form with a rich text field and integrated it with a Google Sheet.
Looking at the Google Sheet, the formatted text has been stripped of all mark-up ends up in the cell as bare plain text.
I tried this with both CK Editor and Tiny MCE.
To check I also added a Text Box and typed "<p>this is <strong>bold</strong></p>". The result is the same - the text appears in the Google Sheet stripped of all the mark-up.
One final point: I note that the "Edit Submission" field that is now a feature of every form, does appear as html on the Google Sheet.
Question is why does this happen and is there a way to around it.
Thanks

If I understand your question correctly, even if you use bold text on your rich text field, it doesn't seem bold in the Google Spreadsheets Integration. Unfortunately, it is not possible with JotForm. However, you can do it manually in your spreadsheet as you see below:

yantiangReplied on March 8, 2016 at 12:45 PMThanks for your prompt reply. It is self-evident that it does not work with JotForm. Would the developers be able/willing to change this behaviour as I see it as a bug. If I for example use a Google form and submit via a plain text field “bold” then that is exactly how it appears in a cell on the Google Sheet. But if I do exactly the same using JotForm using a plain text filed then all the mark-up gets stripped-out by the integration. I know that marked-up text can be entered manually directly into the Google Sheet but that is of no practical use if I am using a form to submit the data.

I have integrated my test form with Google Spreadsheets and I set two of the columns to show submitted data as “bold”. Then I have made another submission and new data are also "bold".
I would suggest you to re-integrate your form with Google Spreadsheets to see if that will resolve your issue.
1. Remove the current integration
2. Clear your JotForm cache
3. Re-integrate with Google Sheets
Hope this will help. Let us know if you need further assistance.

yantiangReplied on March 8, 2016 at 3:46 PMThank you, but that is not the problem. Of course if you set the column to bold everything in that column will be bold. The problem is that text formated as rich text in JotForm will have all the mark-up stripped out when sent to a Google Spreadsheet using the integration. That means bold, italic, list etc all revert to plain unformatted text. This appears to be a bug in the integration. Google Spreadsheet cells do support HTML and in fact you can enter HTML in a cell either manually or by posting rich text from a Google Form or via Zapier etc - none of which is of any help to me.

Currently the form data does indeed get sent without any formatting to the google spreadsheet when using the integration. If you like, we can send this as a feature request on your behalf so that the integration sends the data in rich text format to google sheets. However, do note that the implementation depends on the amount of users requesting the feature and the workload of our developers.
Do let us know if you approve so we can proceed.
We will wait for your reply. -
