Is it a must to enable IPN for PayPal?

    Dear Sir / Madam,

I use JotForm to prepare an order form for my customers, which allows them to make the payment via PayPal.

May I know that is it a must to enable IPN (Instant Payment Notification) for PayPal? As a seller, what is the purpose of it?

    Many thanks.

    Hi Neon,

Yes it is a must, without it Jotform will not be able to received payment information from Paypal once a payment has been completed on their side. http://www.jotform.com/help/279-How-to-Enable-IPN-for-Paypal-Pro

    Hi Elton,

    Thank you for your information.

JotForm needs IPN to update the payment status, and do some post actions (like notification) after the payment is completed.

Apart from the status update from JotForm, if the customer do instant payment via PayPal, I can still see the invoice is paid properly in PayPal account, and arrange delivery even IPN is disabled, right? The problem left is that I cannot know the payment status in JotForm account, isn't it?

    Many thanks.

    Neon

    Hello Neon,

    That is correct.

If the IPN does not get to us, your payments will be suspended in the Incomplete Payments list.

You will not be notified either of a successful submission (though this can be overridden to send notifications anyway).

But as long as you understand this - you can disable IPN's on Paypal.
