Navigating remote hiring in the middle of a global pandemic is no easy feat, but brothers Adam and Jordan Mendler of The Veloz Group are able to do it with a little help from online forms.
Adam and Jordan founded The Veloz Group in 2012 with the goal of “building and operating technology-driven companies.” Over the years they’ve successfully built a handful of companies and currently focus on three: Beverly Hills Chairs, Custom Tobacco, and Veloz Solutions.
Adam is also the host of the popular leadership and business podcast Thirty Minute Mentors, where he talks one on one with Fortune 500 CEOs, founders of multibillion dollar companies, celebrities, athletes, and military leaders.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, businesses had to scramble to adapt to the changing environment in order to stay afloat. The Veloz Group understood this right away and knew they needed to move quickly, especially with their furniture venture, Beverly Hills Chairs, which specializes in selling refurbished brand name office chairs, such as the Herman Miller Aeron chair, at deeply discounted prices.
“One of the things that happened to Beverly Hills Chairs as a result of the pandemic was that our customer base shifted,” Adam Mendler says. “Pre-pandemic, we were primarily selling to businesses — small and medium businesses and some large companies all over the country. That completely changed with people moving from in-person to remote work.”
Almost overnight, Beverly Hills Chairs’s customer base switched from businesses to consumers, which meant the company needed to increase its customer support team to accommodate the increased demand in service.
“Pre-pandemic, when we would sell 100 chairs, that meant servicing two or three new customers. Now selling 100 chairs could mean 99 new customers. To accommodate the change, we had to staff up, and staffing up meant utilizing Jotform throughout the hiring process,” Adam says.
How The Veloz Group uses Jotform for remote hiring
Adam and Jordan’s challenge was to hire new customer service representatives, and fast.
To manage the flow of applications, they needed a system that could integrate with their website to easily gather and manage applicant information, and save as much time as possible. As longtime Jotform users, they naturally turned to Jotform for help.
Jotform makes it easy to hire remotely. Adam and Jordan could choose from one of Jotform’s 10,000+ templates, and were able to create an application in minutes.
Applicants filled out the form with their information, such as name, phone number, and address; uploaded a resume and cover letter; and easily submitted their responses.
When an application looked promising, The Veloz Group used Jotform to send a form screen. Similar to a phone screen, the form screen gathered more information on a candidate’s background, past work experience, and overall skill set by having them complete a short test.
“We were using Jotform to vet the applicants and try to better understand who we should have a telephone interview with. [With the form screen] we were effectively able to skip a step, review applications in an organized way, test on our own time, and then decide if we wanted to proceed further,” says Adam.
Using Jotform to manage the hiring process is an effective way to get more done in less time. Teams can embed the online application form on a website or share it as a standalone link. In addition to uploading files like resumes and cover letters, applicants can complete anything else the company requires, such as a brief test or writing exercise.
Once an applicant submits their form, the responses are automatically emailed to the hiring manager and instantly funneled into Jotform Tables for easy managing, organizing, and tracking.
The Veloz Group also uses Jotform to hire interns for its comprehensive internship program. The company has filled numerous job openings this way over the years.
