How to Find Field IDs and Names

Last Update: July 18, 2017

Customizing the appearance of your fields using CSS is a common task in JotForm. Now, finding the field ID has been made easier, allowing for smoother customization of every bit of your form. Instead of using Firebug or viewing the source code through the Browser Console, you can simply check the field properties.

Watch the short video or follow the text-based guide below to know how.

1. In the Form Builder, select a field and click the GEAR icon to open its properties window.

2. Go to the ADVANCED tab.

3. Scroll down to the very bottom and click FIELD DETAILS.

4. A small section will open up where the UNIQUE NAME and FIELD IDs are displayed.

Was this easy for you? If you have any questions or suggestions, please share them in the comments section below.

Why is it that in the Properties window, the 'Name:' values have brackets? ex:{name1}.

Are they part of the input field name?

This is somewhat confusing. If these brackets are not part of the field name, then why have them there? They are not in the ID field detail value.

I too can't find the field details for some of the labels/field. I want to remove the rule(line) dividing Step 5 and Upload Images. I can;t find the field ID to inject CSS to it. It's not appearing on Properties.

I can only EDIT properties, I cannot SHOW properties & therefore can not LOCATE FIELD ID. Please advise. What I do is
1. edit my form
2. click on properties icon for my field
3. voila - EDIT properties; nothing about SHOW or field names.
