How to add images to multiple-choice questions in Microsoft Forms

Some people understand visuals better than they do text. That’s why many Microsoft Forms users celebrated when Microsoft finally rolled out a new feature in late 2022: the ability to insert images as choices in multiple-choice forms. (Interestingly, other form builders have recognized the need for image choices for years, understanding that text-only choices could impact the accuracy of survey or quiz results.)

Microsoft Forms: 3 ways to add images to multiple-choice questions

You can add images to multiple-choice questions in three different ways. The method you choose will most likely depend on the number of images you’re planning to add.

1. Bulk import

Use this method when you need to locate multiple images and add them as options for your multiple-choice question:

1. Click New Form (or open a previously created one).
2. Click the Add new button, then select Choice.
3. Click the Insert, paste, or drag media button next to the desired question or option field.
4. Select either the OneDrive, Upload, or Image Search tab. (The image search uses Bing.)
5. Navigate to or search for your desired images and select them. 
6. Click the Open or Add button when finished. Forms will automatically add all of the images as answer options.

2. Drag and drop

Use this method when you have multiple images readily available and want to quickly add them as options for your multiple-choice question:

1. Click New Form (or open a previously created one).
2. Click the Add new button, then select Choice.
3. Navigate to your desired images in your file explorer and select them. 
4. Drag and drop the images onto the question in Forms. Forms will automatically create and populate the same number of options with those images.

3. Copy and paste

Use this method when you have an image readily available and want to quickly add it as an option for your multiple-choice question:

1. Click New Form (or open a previously created one).
2. Click the Add new button, then select Choice.
3. Navigate to your desired image in your file explorer or internet browser and copy it. 
4. Select the desired question or option field, then paste the image. Forms will automatically populate the option with your copied image.
