Embed a SurveyMonkey form on your website

To embed SurveyMonkey on a website, you’ll need to get an HTML embed code from the form builder and paste it into your website’s source code. SurveyMonkey uses a website collector to generate embed codes and offers four embed options: embedded surveys, embedded buttons, popup invitations, and popup surveys. You’ll need a SurveyMonkey account to generate embed codes, and some options require a paid plan.

Follow these instructions to add a survey to your website:

1. Open your survey in SurveyMonkey.
2. Click Publish Survey.

3. Click Website. If a website collector doesn’t already exist, you’ll see the option Embed on a Site instead. Click that option.

4. Choose your embed type:

• Embedded survey: Displays the survey inline on the webpage
• Embedded button: Adds a button to your website that links to the survey
• Popup invitation: Shows a popup window inviting users to take the survey in a new tab
• Popup survey: Displays the full survey in a popup window when someone visits the webpage

5. SurveyMonkey will then provide the embed code. 

You can customize settings such as width, height, border color, popup timing, sample rate, and more. You can also adjust collector options by scrolling down the page and reviewing the selections. SurveyMonkey will adjust the embed code accordingly. 

6. View the live preview on this page to confirm how the survey should look on your site.

7. Click Copy, then paste the script into your website’s HTML. The steps for embedding a SurveyMonkey survey vary depending on your website builder. For example, to embed a SurveyMonkey survey in WordPress, paste the code into a custom HTML block. 

For embedded surveys and embedded buttons, paste the code wherever you want the survey or button to appear on the page. For popup invitations and popup surveys, paste the script immediately before the closing </body> tag.

Embed a SurveyMonkey form in an email

With a paid SurveyMonkey plan, you can embed the first survey question directly in the survey email invitation. When recipients answer that first question, they are taken to the full survey in their browser with their response already selected.

Note that SurveyMonkey supports embedding only the first question in an email invite, not the entire survey. The first question also must be a multiple-choice question, Net Promoter Score question, or star rating. If it isn’t one of those supported question types, you won’t be able to embed it in the email.

Here’s how to embed a survey question in an email with SurveyMonkey:

1. Open your survey in SurveyMonkey.
2. Click Publish Survey.
3. Click Send by Email or Email Invitation. 
4. Type in your message. This is the message your survey respondents will see when opening the email.
5. Toggle on Embed First Question. Doing so will replace the standard Begin Survey button with the first question of your survey.
6. Enable In-Email Response Capture to record the first answer the moment the respondent clicks on the question in the email. Note that this feature cannot be changed once you send the email invitation.
7. Preview the email to ensure the question displays correctly.
8. Send or schedule the email invitation.
