Setting Up Email Notifications

Last Update: May 2, 2017

Setting up email notifications on your web forms is as easy as 1-2-3. You'll be able to get email notifications whenever you receive a response from your web forms including checking them out from almost anywhere.


If you are trying to test the email alerts using " Test Email " button, please note that this will always send the email notification to the email address that is registered with your jotform account profile. Instead, you must make an actual submission on your live form to test the newly added recipient email address you are setting up in the form if different. Please refer to this guide for more information: How-to-properly-change-and-test-a-new-email-recipient-address.

1. Click on "Settings" at the top of the page.

2. Next, click on "Emails".

3. Then click the "+" symbol.

4. Click on Notification Email.

Each section is separated by tabs. 

(Left) Email Tab: This is where you can make changes the email template and subject header.

(Middle) Recipients Tab: Here you can define the recipient email address(es) for where you want to receive an emailed notification about a new submission from your form. You can also set the Sender Name and Reply-To Email.

(Right) Advanced Tab: In the advanced tab you can change here the Sender Email Address and other email settings.

In other instances, you may also choose to implement your own custom email into your setup as a Customer Sender E-Mail Address. So if that is the case then you will want to refer to this guide How to Add a Sender Address.

Additionally, if you are having issues with your emails not being received then we recommend you check out this guide over here to learn more about How to prevent "emails not being received" related issues.

Note: If you are looking for a way to setup text only email, please do note that this is not possible any more. The new wizard will allow you to only change the HTML email, text only emails are actually no longer used as mobile devices are becoming more common and all can open HTML emails without issues.

can you tell me how to set this up please. Also, I am creating a website for a pizza shop which will offer delivery and pickup through the website. The client wants a record of every customer that orders through the website on an excel sheet. Does Jotform actually provide a database service on the premium pack and also how reliable is this service.

I want the form to go 2 several people within my company. I have followed all your instructions adding additional email addresses seperated by a comma. When I send a test email only the original email receives the form. What am I doing wrong? Can I eliminate the original email address all together? I want to eliminate it.

I've set up the notification option as directed. I receive emails via your website "test email" option. I do not, however, receive test emails I create through the contact page on my website. All the test emails made through the contact page on my website reside in the Submissions folder on your site. Why would I receive test emails generated from your site but not from mine if the send to email address is the same? Thanks!

Thanks for a great tool!

I followed the steps for setting up the email notifications. The Test Email to the default address is coming through but the test submission that I've done few times directly on the form does not work at all - no notifications.

I assume that the submissions are recorded even if the payment has not taken place. Is that correct?

The inbox in my jotform account does not show any submissions. I also checked the recipient's spam folder and there is nothing there.

The recipient's email is the same as the default one.
My form is this:

Please let me know how to fix it.

I have set up another form just for testing:
and I'm receiving the notifications but not the submissions. Submissions are only visible in the inbox in my jotform account.
Again I checked the spam folder and nothing is there.
Any idea what's wrong?

It sort of seems confusing however your saying that the area that says Senders e-mail is the place to add my client's name and e-mail address? What seems confusing is the fact that he is not a sender but a receiver of the e-mail submissions coming into him. Also because the form is set up by me will I still get notifications as well as my client or just him only?

Just one question related with this and PDF forms:

If I reconfigure the email notifications of the form, do I have to resend the PDF to the users after that? Or do they just depend on the answers, so I will receive the new notifications without sending new PDF forms to users?

The ability customize email notifications is great. I have been using the source code form text areas in my form to add a look and feel to my notifications. I even use the form builder interface to prepare the email look and feel then copy the source code into the email notification - fantastic.

I've already followed all the directions in the setting up email guide. I've published the form on a Yola site, also following directions.
Each time I test it I fill out the form completely and hit 'submit'.

I've checked my junk folder.

I even tried setting it up with another email, in case the problem was with my own email.

Nothing works. I don't receive any email notifications.

Is it possible to insert the description of a particular field? For example a student registers for a course number and in the description we put the date and time of the course. I would like to incorporate that into their e-mail confirmation but i am not finding how I can do that .
