  • WELCOME TO YOUR SENIOR YEAR!   This can be a overwhelming and stressful time for you and your parents but rest assured we are here to help. This packet is a important part of the application process. The main purpose of this packet is for Mrs. Fowler to write the counselor recommendation. If you have any questions while filling this out, see Mrs. Fowler and if she is not available see Ms. Irving. When you complete this packet Ms. Irving will be notified and she will set up an appointment for you based on your earliest deadline.   IMPORTANT TIPS AND INFORMATION NEEDED TO COMPLETE PACKET   COLLEGE LIST : You will need the addresses and deadlines for the colleges you are definitely applying to. Create your college list with earliest deadline first and then the next deadline etc. Do not wait until you have your entire college list ready you can add other schools later . Once the counselor recommendation is written the turn around time when adding schools is much faster; usually 1-2 school days.   DEADLINE S : Students must submit this COMPLETED packet in to guidance 30 DAYS BEFORE YOUR EARLIEST DEADLINE! The 30 days is not active until Mrs. Fowler returns on Aug 25th. Packets not received within the 30 days will be put at the bottom of your earliest deadline applicants and may not get done in time. Actual College Deadline Guidance Must Receive By: Oct 1 Sep 2 Nov 1 Oct 1 Nov 15 Oct 15 Nov 30 Oct 30 Dec 15 through Jan 2 Nov 14 ADMISSION TYPE : REGULAR DECISION is a specific deadline and admission decisions are not make until after that deadline. EARLY DECISION (ED) is a binding agreement with the college with a specific deadline. This decision should not be taken lightly you need to be committed to attend and financially prepared to pay tuition not knowing what your financial aid package will be. DEADLINES are usually early so make sure you do your research. Not all schools offer ED. EARLY ACTION(EA or EAII) has specific deadline but is NOT binding but you do find out your acceptance decisions sooner than regular decision candidates. Not all schools offer EA. ROLLING ADMISSION: If your school does not have a deadline and lists "rolling admission" we will use the earliest date from your list. Rolling means they process and make decision on a rolling basis as the get the packets.   RECOMMENDATIONS : If you asked your teachers last year to write you a recommendation send them a reminder and let them know your earliest deadline. If you have not asked your teachers it is better to approach them in person and ask and then follow up that conversation with a e-mailed reminder with your earliest deadline. FYI: teachers do not have to agree to write your rec. Some teachers have a cap on how many they do so ask early and remind them....at least 30 days before your earliest deadline (   TEST SCORES : We recommend that you send your scores through the SAT Site @ www.collegebo ard.org or the ACT Site @ www.actstudent.org . If you have financial hardship we can send the scores for you but you are responsible for contacting the college/university to see if they will accept scores from us. ENVELOPES: you must provide an envelope addressed to each school that you want us to send the scores to once you confirmed they accept them.   COMMON APP : The Common App (www.commonapp.org) is a great way to apply to multiple college/univ that are part of the common with one application as well as invite your teachers and Mrs. Fowler to complete their recommendations online. We recommend using the Common App for all schools that use it. Create your Common App account (make sure it is for 2014-15) and start filling out as much as you can. Invite Mrs. Fowler and your teachers that agreed to write your rec. Click this link COMMON APP INFO for information you will need while filling out the Common App like class size, rank etc.   NON COMMON APP SCHOOLS: For schools that are not on the common app you will have to apply online through their web sites or download their application. Make sure to check for a Counselor/School Report page and print it out and bring to guidance if their is one. Their may also be a page for the teachers. ENVELOPES: You must provide envelopes addressed to each non-common app school.   WAIVE RIGHTS? : This will be asked on the Common APP or any college application. The basics- if you select to " waive my right" this means that you trust the person you asked to write you a favorable rec without reading it. If you select to " I do not waive my right " this may cause a "red" flag and the admissions person may see this as a negative in that you do not trust the person to write a favorable rec for you and the faculty member may choose to not write you a recommendation.   CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES : You will need a list of all activities, grade levels involved and any awards/recognitions.   Parents click this link if you like to fill out the PARENT BRAG SHEET you can also find this on our web site.
